In 'Learning from Las Vegas' Venturi talks about the low lit gambling rooms and the brightly lit oasis-like patios of casinos. Light in casinos is 'anti-architectural'

You don't know if it's day or night. You don't know where the room begins and where the room ends. 'Time is limitless' and 'space is limitless'. 'Lighting, is antiarchitectural.'
The purpose of lighting here is to distort our senses.

The shopping centre in The Venetian Macau has no natural light and is made to feel like you are outside, but without the cycle of the sun. It's always daytime here. You don't how many hours you've been shopping.

Lighting can not only dictate your mood, but also our perception of time and space.
For architects, lighting is a powerful tool to shape a space, using artificial light like in the casinos, or using the lightbulb God has given, The Sun.
